Puck Placement

 After a month away from the DCU Center, we finally had some more home games. Because we were out for so long, we had to store away everything after our last game in February. On game day March 2nd, we worked on our Chuck-A-Puck bags for a little while and then traversed to the depths of the rink to bring back up all the racks for the merch stands. When working on the Chuck-A-Pucks, I found a puck with a little message on it from a kid that said "Hi can I win pleas". I got pulled from setting up the merch stands to do the seat tags around the rink and then setup the Kid's Club table as we were opening the doors soon. I worked the Kid's Club table for the weekend, which has been the first time I've officially been assigned there. It was Harry Potter night, A.K.A. Saturday, February 10th, was our annual Pink in the Rink night! The ice gets painted/dyed pink and this is another night that the players wear special jerseys that get auctioned off at the end of the night. Because of this, we had to print out certificates for each of those jerseys, but the printer in the office is always a little temperamental. I was tasked with sitting at the printer, taking out the cardstock when it got jammed on the right side, replace the paper in the drawer, and take the finished certificate out of the left side when it got jammed there. Then, I'd look at it to see if it was good to go or if it would have to be printed again because of a giant ink line through the middle. If it was good to go, I'd have to immediately delete the job on the printer screen before it tried to print again.  This was my second time doing the Skate to Success. When I got to the rink, I set up the orange jerseys all the kids get on the table upstairs to hand them out when they arrived. We had another pair of players come in to talk to the kids and skate around with them. I handed out the kids' skates and helped them tie them up, getting different sizes if needed. Some of the kids have difficulty walking over to the ice in the skates, so I walked a few over. Some of our other front office members will come to the event to skate with the kids or market the team. I got to be the DJ again and took the kids' song requests. There were a couple times that I had to help the kids with their skates or laces throughout their skate time and asked Trax to get one of the guys to come help them out if they had trouble with their helmets because I don't know how to fix those and am unfamiliar with them. I left at 11:30 again so I could get to my class.    

 Today was my first Skate to Success event! Every Tuesday, 1-2 schools from the Worcester area come to the Worcester Ice Center with their fourth graders. The Railers bring in a couple players from the team to come take pictures and sign autographs. Today was Jack Quinlivan and Zsombor Garat. When I got to the Ice Center, I started putting together the folders for the kids to take home with them. They included 2 coloring pages, a word search, a magnetic schedule, a Trax card, and a ticket voucher for a game. As I was doing that, our COO brought his dog, Kelly, in, so I had to take a puppy petting break. After I was done with those, I passed out some of the orange jerseys to the kids. They got their instructions for the day and introduced to the players while I went back to the lobby to start sorting out the skates and learning how to size them - 1 size down from their shoe size for boys and 2 down for girls.  I had my second 3 in 3 this weekend! Friday, the 26th, I had classes and a meeting at school, so I got to DCU a little later. It was Women in Hockey/Sports night, so as soon as I got there, we were putting out the inflatable for our first game of the night - the girls hockey team from the Junior Crusaders. We also had 4 Nichols kids helping us out for the day. I did the seat tags and then it was time for our game. I was stationed at the Chuck-A-Puck table. That night, half of the proceeds from the Chuck-A-Puck went to St. John's Church for the homeless shelter nearby, so there were 4 of them who were at the table talking to the guests.  I had my first 3-in-3 this past weekend (3 games in 3 days), and it was so busy! January 12th was country night and was sponsored by Off The Rails. We came in and did Chuck-A-Pucks and merch stands, but the president brought in her new dog, so we played with her for a while as well. I did the seat tags again this game. I ran the Chuck-A-Puck mobile station for the weekend which is a bunch of the bags in a Price Chopper shopping cart. I walk around the concourse and stop at the Kids Club table and the bar section to get a good flow of people seeing me. January 13th was a high school double header day. We had 2 games between Nashoba Regional High School and Grafton High School, JV and Varsity. Like always, we came in to do Chuck-A-Pucks until I checked on the concourse table setup.  On January 5th, we had our first sensory friendly/autism awareness game. We went to the office and worked on making Chuck-A-Pucks and went to help set up the merch stands. This was also the first game I got to work that I got to be the one to check on the tables for the concourse. I got a blueprint style map of which tables were supposed to be where and who was supposed to be at them. It was also my first game doing the seat tags. These are pieces of paper that are taped to the seats in the rink of ticket buyers. They go on single ticket buyers' seats and those who bought the tickets for their group. During this game, the Railers had The Railyard (a room that has tables, chairs, and a bar that gets rented out each game) booked as the "Cool Down" room. I've worked with kids and adults with autism before, so I offered to be stationed there that night.
